As a citizen of Canada, I am appalled that the government of Ontario would make such antediluvian laws that put all Ontario residents, Canadians, and the world at risk.
We know in 2026 from reputable scientists and economists that good sustainable building and planning regulations keep people safe, healthy, and protected from climate change and ever increasing expenses. Houses need to have the least amount of emissions possible, have good affordable heating and cooling, and be built well to last.
Communities must be consulted about development and make their own regulations to reduce the risk of climate disasters which are coming more often and much stronger, causing high costs to the municipalities, businesses, and homeowners.
It is your job, as lawmakers and elected leaders, to protect all citizens and allow communities to protect themselves from extreme weather, high energy costs, and expensive insurance.
Think of your children. And their children. What will you tell them when they asked, "Why didn't you do something to protect us?"
