As a Thunder Bay resident, I have concerns about the Province’s proposed changes to planning processes through Bill 98. I do not support changes that could limit our community’s ability to build sustainably. I believe it is important that municipalities retain the ability to implement tools such as green development standards to address climate change and reduce long-term costs for residents.

I’m also worried about proposed changes to site plan control. These tools help ensure proper stormwater management, protect green space, and secure benefits like parkland dedication that make our neighbourhoods healthier and more resilient. Completing thorough site studies as part of the planning process is also essential, as they inform better design decisions and support sustainable building practices tailored to local conditions.

Removing or weakening these requirements will have real impacts on how our community grows. I encourage the Province to maintain municipal authority in these areas so that isolated communities like Thunder Bay can continue to plan for a sustainable future.
