The ministry is unnecessarily limiting the effectiveness of the CO2 reduction program by restricting the renewable content of gasoline only to ethanol. Considering the entire CO2 lifecycle, other technologies exist in addition to ethanol that convert waste cellulosic material and other renewable feed stocks into octane rating enhancing products such as Benzene, Toluene and Xylene, not to mention technologies that can produce gasoline, jet fuel and diesel from renewable sources, which could also be blended with fuels to lower Ontario's overall carbon footprint. Why limit the range of technologies by making incentives available for only one octane enhancing chemical? The program would be more effective if it were more inclusive to other octane enhancers and green fuels.
