As a practicing Urban Planner, I am very much in support of the new Downtown Plan (OPA 406). The new policies offer a much needed refresh of the policies governing growth and change within the Downtown, with the goal of ensuring the development of vibrant, healthy, sustainable and complete communities. I find the enhanced protections for public parks and the finer-grained approached to Mixed Use Areas to be particularly important policies that will ensure growth is responsive to the site's context, and allows for more appropriate and place-specific growth. I encourage the Provincial government to approve OPA 406 so that the policies and vision for the Downtown can be effectively implemented.
