I strongly oppose this proposal. We drive with our two children and use HOV lanes occasionally. These lanes are tricky to get into and out of as it is. Some people also treat them like a "no speed limits" or "autobahn" lanes as the HOV lanes are to the left of the regular passing lanes.
We also see the hazard that motorcycles present to themselves and others on the 400-series highways and QEW. Unfortunately, the majority of the time, they speed, weave in and out of traffic and/or tailgate. We have seen what looked like racing, as well as a group of cyclists taking up the highway and
intimidating other users by gang-like behaviour and/or muffler-less noise.
This proposal seems to have no links to online supporting documents. In the age of digital government, this is both unacceptable and raises questions about the motivation and evidence for this proposal. Please scan and post all the documents here - or even better, post the original text for accessibility. If you have any evidence that this proposal would be safe, this evidence deserves open public scrutiny.
Based on all that I have seen, allowing single-use motorcycles on HOV lanes would make a tricky situation into a very dangerous one - and imagine all that with the contemplated higher speed limits! Even with the current speed limit, we may have to avoid HOV lanes completely to stay safe from motorcycles. The lanes could easily become "motorcycle lanes" during any time when this group of road users decides to take them over. This would defeat the congestion-reducing purpose of HOV lanes. It would also endanger the public. Please do not do it!
