I would like applaud the policy makers who have decided to revise the current policy and reduce the minimum distance requirement for placement of bait from rights of way for public vehicular traffic and marked and maintained recreational trails for black bear hunting from 200 metres to 30 metres.
I have a bad knee and 200m is an very long distance to walk and carry bait much less remove a harvested bear. I bait and leave no trace which includes not creating trails, so 200m makes it very difficult to do this without actually cutting a trail and leaving no trace.
I traditionally hunt a area which had been cut over and it is peppered with small skid ways and trails throughout the area. Setting up a bait site that is not within 200m of any of these trails is very difficult.
Thanks for moving forward with this issue.
