This is just not a problem that needs to be solved by residents and businesses that live around Lake Simcoe. Any watershed streams and creeks that flow into Lake Simcoe need to be part of the strategy for PH reduction. PH is just one of the problems of Lake Simcoe. Run-off from roads (salt and oils) need o be addressed also. Ramara Township uses very little salt on our roads. It is mostly sand. Urban areas like Newmarket and Barrie need to greatly reduce their use of salt. I do not know why Parks Canada is not part of this organization because they have a lot of say on the waters flowing into Lake Simcoe. They should be brought to the table so they are part of the solution. It would be nice to see money being made available for organizations that are going to do a clean-up. For example, Lagoon City waterways are going to be dredged which in the long run will reduce the PH by removing all the muck on the bottom of the canals. The Ontario Government needs to make regulations so that you cannot use products that increases PH, for example, soaps and fertilizers. In fact, I am just amazed that it has not already been done. After all, that is one of the easiest ways to start to remove phosphorus from our system. I think your research on Phoslock is a good idea and it should probably be made available to the municipalities and to other organizations that are responsible for waterways, at no cost so that they can apply this product as soon as possible.
