If one counts what remains of the entire earth's first growth forests, there is but little remaining. We must say enough is enough to its destruction come a point, before there is nothing left; right? Today I write to say that I'm opposed to new road building into virgin forest, and the industrial exploitation of the virgin forests of Ontario. I'm opposed to the environmental degradation of remaining old-growth forests in Ontario. The current scenario proposed in the proposal is sad and serious. Sad, because there once was a pride felt for our land and strength in our values; the exploitation of Wolf-Lake as described is shameful and is an other stain on us as a whole. Environmental degradation of the remaining old-growth forests in Ontario, such as Wolf-Lake is serious because forests and their production of health benefits for human beings has been heavily studied, and these old growth forests are not just attractive destination. Given their purity, and rarity thousands upon thousands of Ontarians, year upon year, visit. In Ontario there aren't any great pyramids, Great Walls, and until relatively recently we accepted the notion that all the old-growth virgin forests in Ontario had been logged. These old-growth environments give our province destinations that are educative, fascinating, healthy, rare, and show the rest of the world our values, aslo attracting them to Ontario. These old-growth forests create destinations all over our province's map, encouraging exploration of Ontario by far more than a select few when they're used within an industrial context. We have very few old-growth forests here in Ontario and Ontarians such as myself should believe we are rich enough to conserve them.
