Changes to the Crown…

Changes to the Crown Forestry Sustainability Act could mean that new permits would not be required, and the proposals could introduce other Minister powers which include not having to prioritize forest protection in the area of the permit approval process.

Also, there could be huge changes in oversight: a) The forestry licence holder could make changes without seeking Ministry approval, and in turn this Ministry approval would no longer be required for those annual work plans. b) Many forestry reports would no longer need to be tabled in the Legislature or approved by Cabinet, leaving little room for accountability here.

This Gov't has cut the 50MTP tree planting program which is rather appalling and very reckless, and it is therefore very hypocritical for it to state their commitment to protect the environment. Also, the cancellation of this amazing program directly and indirectly costs 100's of jobs and other spin off monetary losses.

These proposals in Bill 132 would weaken rather than strengthen forest protection and sustainability which further threatens our climate which is already in a critically heightened state. Since every tree is of extreme importance to our health, and that of our planet, where we can save/plant a tree, let it be done, please!
