My concern is that Ontario has not undertaken credible nature-based recreation planning. This leaves the indefinitely sustainable tourism employment, tax generation and economic values supported by tourism not only continuously vulnerable but also suffering from development deficits. Lack of nature-based recreation planning also impacts the planning, development and viability of forestry and mining. Diverse recreation quality is not only a substantial economic, employment and tax generation value through tourism, it is also a substantial social value. The thing to remember is outdoor recreation is more than just ATVs and snowmobiles. They both need to be considered and accommodated but other types of recreation they conflict with have at least equal value to the people of Ontario.
Tourism industry values to both the regional and provincial economy, employment and net tax generation are also not given sufficient consideration in resource planning. Both forestry and mining require substantial support from Ontario taxes, much of the taxes that support forestry and mining are generated by tourism.
