Protecting Water C are not shown in the mapping for north Simcoe County, and it is not clear how the study area was established. The consultation document indicates that “the province gathered and analyzed the best-available provincial and public data on water features”, however, in addition to ‘public data’, other local information or data sets may be available from agencies or organizations like SSEA, Conservation Authorities and others. Where available, local information should be used to refine a proposed Greenbelt expansion.

3.Ensure alignment with existing water resource legislation and programs, and integration with other planning information. There has been a significant investment of local and provincial resources in municipal source water education and outreach, as well as the creation and ongoing implementation of Source Protection Plans that help protect water.

4.Consider that an expansion of the Greenbelt could result in increased development pressure on areas near the newly expanded Greenbelt boundaries, which may need to be addressed.

5.Expansion of the Greenbelt should include establishing criteria for measuring progress and success, to ensure the Greenbelt is achieving goals for protecting the environment.
