WE welcome that the proposal to expand the Greenbelt and add on the area of the Bluebelt  We live in Tyendinaga Township which has experienced a 3.5 % growth from 2011 to 2016 according to Stats Canada.  Our growth is much higher than the rest of Hastings County.  I believe that is most likely due to the fact that we are the township with the 401 corridor going through it.  That means we are 2 hours from Toronto, 10 minutes from Belleville and about 35 minutes from Trenton or Kingston.  We are experiencing significant growth in housing, particularly since the rise in Toronto home prices. As well it is our understanding that Belleville will become the one stop VIA rail rapid transit from Montreal to Toronto.  Should that occur, there is predicted greater growth. We would like to ensure that the Bluebelt includes the 401 corridor going through Tyendinaga Township, with land at least 10 km on either side of it.

Tyendinaga is home to many farms and we also welcome residential development as it supports our tax base.  What we are concerned about is enlarging quarry development in our township given that we only have one viable, low yield vulnerable aquifer.  Many households can be sustained with the water that is currently being pumped out of an existing quarry and we want to be very careful in designating further such operations that may compete with the water supply.
