• Managing invasive species to protect and restore habitat is work that is important. The type of
habitat varies from wetland, sand barren, tallgrass prairie, oak savannah, oak woodland and forest.
• Roadside vegetation control is also essential
• Currently municipalities applying pesticides require a Letter of Opinion
• In many cases, the most effective control of invasive and noxious weeds involves herbicide use
• We request that the Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks (MECP) consider including
municipalities as a group exempted under the Act as much of our work on invasive species is
beyond Forestry. This exception would be similar to what is given to conservation authorities, golf
courses and agriculture
• By doing this, it will reduce administrative delays and increase the ability of municipalities to
manage Ontario’s habitats
