-Thank you so much for providing leadership on this important issue.
-The Catholic Board has been an active member of Active and Safe routes to Schools. However, there are many obstacles to implement this. There is not safe area on most schools for students to safely bike as there are many cars dropping of students. New schools need to be designed where cars are in a different area than walkers or riders
-There is a great need for bike parking in the city as well as on school grounds. Some of the car parking areas should be reserved for bike racks.
-Hamilton has over 200 km of bike paths however many are not connected.
-A most important issue is bike safety. Many vehicle drivers are not respecting the rights of bikes to be on roads and are careless. In Hamilton we have an average of 150 bike car collisions. This is not acceptable. When the car sticker renewal notices are sent out there should be a note on the rules that vehicle drivers must abide by.
-All bike manufacturers should be required to make bikes with front and rear lights, a rear view mirror, a loud enough horn and painted with bright colours
-Provide municipalities with yearly funds to create more bike lanes and more signage that would direct riders to the proper roads to ride on.
