It is hard to believe that Ontario would weaken their Endangered Species protection at a time when diversity is shrinking at an unprededented rate. Emphasis at this point in our climate emergency should be on retention of mixed forest with tax incentives offered on the basis of carbon capture ratings, moisture retention ratings and habitat for endangered species ratings etc. Retraining of those losing jobs in the forestry sector should occur now for the purpose of these ecological assessments. Clear cutting of tracts of forest should be relegated to history and taught as a bad example. Retaining forests and species will be an incentive for increasing eco-tourism. Canada needs to lead the way by setting the example of preservation.
