Wild take is an important part of the heritage of falconry and I strongly believe it should be available to all licensed falconers including apprentices with no lottery. The goshawk is an exception and should only be offered to fully licensed falconers as they take much more experience to handle and thrive.
As a licensed falconer I have been affected by the lottery system when I would have learned a lot in my apprenticeship but didn't get drawn for a license so I missed at chance at growing my experience.
I strongly believe all falconers should have a chance at wild take for the 4 current species available, especially red-tailed hawks. It is an important way of hunting for me and see no negative repercussions as all species listed are in strong enough numbers to warrant the request.
