I am OPPOSED to the proposal to expand the capture of birds of prey for sporting purposes. Regardless of tradition, given the disturbing decline in all animal species caused by loss of habitat and pollution, I do not think wild animals should be captured for sporting purposes, except and only by First Nations people whose traditions span tens of thousands of years and whose practices show respect for animals and preservation of the environment. The so-called 'tradition' I assume exists among the wealthy. Using an animal for sport shows no regard for the animal's freedom, natural habits or well-being. We need to preserve our animal populations and environment as they are critical to our own survival. Capturing for sports or 'fun' for people should be completely banned. I am guessing you wiill go ahead with this proposal despite opposition, in which case what measures will be put in place to ensure the captured wildlife are properly cared for? I remain opposed, regardless.
