The use of Minister's Zoning Orders by the current government violates our democratic rights. The backlash from the Duffins Creek Wetland debacle is evidence that these orders are being abused. Our representatives in the Ontario government should uphold environmental policies and standards that are already established. Further, given the climate, biodiversity and pollution crises we are facing at the moment and the dire consequences to our very existence, if we do not act immediately and deliberately to extend our efforts to protect the environment, our future existence as a species (not to mention so many other species inhabit the planet) is under threat.
For these reasons, I am demanding that Schedule 3 be removed from Bill 257. Furthermore, I am expressing my dismay at the Government’s attempt to pass this destructive policy within a bill designed to address an important need for society today, i.e. the extension of broadband internet access!
