Question 1: What are your thoughts on the initial focus area of the Study Area of the Paris Galt Moraine?
- please be aggressive now in enlarging the Greenbelt so more farmland and natural areas are protected from development in the future.
- besides the inclusion of the Paris-Galt Moraine why not include all moraines in the GGH
Question 2: What are the considerations in moving from a Study Area to a more defined boundary of the Paris Galt Moraine?
- locate the boundary so that it includes the area required to protect all the headwaters and groundwater aquifers associated with the moraine and thereby maximize an abundant water supply for dependent communities and ecosystems.
- please respect Indigenous communities and consult with them about expanding the Greenbelt within their traditional territories as this is a constitutional duty.
Question 3: What are your thoughts on the initial focus area of adding, expanding and further protecting Urban River Valleys?
- in addition to the inclusion of Urban River Valleys, please include private lands in this designation given private lands within the Urban River Valleys are most at risk of development. In other words designate complete river valley corridors.
- why not designate : the Nith, Grand, Conestogo, Eramosa, Speed, Nottawasaga, Ganaraska, East Holland and Don Rivers, and Duffins, Carruthers, Twelve Mile, Gages and Cobourg Creeks.
Question 4: Do you have suggestions for other potential areas to grow the Greenbelt?
- include areas of high ecological and hydrological value that are at risk of urban development.
- include moraines (aquifer areas), cold streams, wetlands and headwaters.
- include Lake Algonquin and the Lake Simcoe Basin.
- include moraines in the GGH to the Greenbelt (Orangeville Moraine; Waterloo and Elora/Fergus moraine; Escarpment Area moraines ; and the Horseshoe Moraines)
Question 5: How should we balance or prioritize any potential Greenbelt expansion with the other provincial priorities (growth management, transportation, infrastructure, natural heritage, agriculture) mentioned above?
- protect natural water resource systems and farmland as a priority.
- increase the Greenbelt to protect nature, water and farmland from development.
- drop plans to build Highway 413 (GTA West) and the Bradford Bypass (Holland Marsh Highway).
-permit municipalities to set policies that exceed Question 6: Are there other priorities that should be considered?
Question 6:
- include Traditional Knowledge of Indigenous communities and look for ways to make reparations with the peoples who share this land.
- recognize the importance of climate resilience through the protection of natural systems from development.
