I am extremely concerned about the province's fixation on the use of nuclear energy. Not only will the refurbishment of these reactors undoubtedly face numerous large cost overruns, but we do not have an environmentally responsible method of dealing with the nuclear waste. reconstruction of the Gardiner Expressway is a much simpler task than refurbishing a nuclear reactor but even that project is facing unconscionable cost escalations. If even 50% of the budgeted costs for refurbishment of nuclear reactors were directed towards green energy R&D, I'm confident we would make great strides into green energy generation and storage. As an example, excess generated energy could be used to make hydrogen which ,in turn, could produce energy when required, through the use of Hydrogen fuel cells. What's needed is a complete rethink of how Ontario's energy requirements will be met over the next 50 - 100 years.
