This is not too difficult. Canada's food security requires that our remaining scarce soil that is capable of producing food be preserved.
0.5% of Canada's soil is class 1 farmland
Only 5% of Canada's land is arable
18% of Ontario"s farmland has been destroyed, and this continues at the rate of 175 acres/day. This is not sustainable.
Ontario's 13.5 billion agriculture industry is dependent on our soil. How much more farmland are we going to destroy?
Ontario has $400.1 Billion debt which increases by$1000 ever second. (just wait for higher interests rates) Ontario cannot afford to subsidize costly, inefficient sprawl.
Ontario has a $10 billion annual food deficit. This is bad for the economy and unsustainable.
Sprawl is anti-climate . Soil is an important carbon sequester
Expand the Greenbelt to include all remaining class 1, 2, 3 food land in Ontario. Call it the Food Land Protection Act.
As Canada's population continues to grow by tens of millions, future generations will need our scarce farmland. Food security will be everything.
