I believe that it is time…

I believe that it is time for all energy suppliers to compete on an equal basis. The current requirements have resulted in inordinately and unnecessarily expensive power. The various "Green" energy suppliers have already received hundreds of millions (maybe even billions?) of dollars of forced subsidies from the residents of Ontario. The contracted rates for wind power are absurdly more expensive in Ontario than in other jurisdictions around the world.

Given that their facilities are already built and that their fuel supply is "free", these suppliers should be able to compete and survive in a level playing field.

The current regime for purchasing power has also resulted in absurd situations. e.g. Blowing off steam in nuclear plants to accommodate more expensive and less dependable renewable power. It has even resulted in hydroelectric plant operators being forced to spill water (the ultimate source of cost-effective, renewable, non-polluting energy) so that wind and solar sources could have preferential access to the grid.

Many residents of Ontario are now the victims of "energy poverty" where they have to choose which necessities to forgo so that they can keep their lights on and their homes heated. This change is a cost effective start to restoring some sanity to the purchasing of electrical power in Ontario.
