The Severn Sound Environmental Association (SSEA) is a Joint Service Board under the Municipal Act, and works closely with eight lower tier municipalities (Midland, Penetanguishene, Tay, Tiny, Springwater, Georgian Bay, Severn and Oro-Medonte) and two upper tier municipalities (County of Simcoe and District of Muskoka) in the Severn Sound area, as well as provincial and federal government agencies and non-government organizations. The SSEA collects environmental data, provides expertise to member municipalities and works to supports healthy terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. The SSEA is a non-regulatory agency except when it pertains to municipal drinking water source protection.
The SSEA receives inquiries/complaints from municipal representatives and the public about a variety of different environmental issues, including potential violations of environmental laws. It would be useful to us for the Ministry to stay in touch on the reporting process for complaints as well as local Ministry contacts, so that we refer concerns appropriately.
