As a Garage owner of two locations, this cant come fast enough! Our system has been behind for decades and really needs this makeover to help flush out the fraudulent inspections that have plagued this system. My only comment is, I would be in support of a Bi Annual "Fitness inspection" This will not be a full out pull all the wheels off measure everything inspection, however, a basic inspection that vehicles have to undergo to renew plate stickers. I would propose a simple (done on a tablet inspection) of a visual of lights, horn, audible exhaust leaks, visual and photos of each tire, parking brake operation and release, inspection of all glass, and complete with a optional OBD inspection (should the vehicle be 7 years or older) A road test accelerating the vehicle to 50 kph and stopping should be included, and the vehicle should be able to pass these basic tests to be licensed in Ontario. I feel a program like this would be valuable in keeping our roads safer and help owners be more in tune with vehicle maintenance.
