I find the proposal details for what happens when the Motor Vehicle Inspection Station program would end to be very vague. I think this is the most important part of the change. What would replace the MVIS program to ensure the proper and efficient inspection of used vehicles in Ontario?

I'm also concerned about the reintroduction of an emissions testing program. The past programs were poorly thought out and ineffective. What equipment would be required to be a test facility? Would testing facilities be able to make sufficient return on their investments to dedicate space and resources to this activity? Has any consideration been given to procuring the required test equipment in this day and age with shortages in almost all areas of the economy. Diagnostic equipment is all most sure to require semiconductors (computer chips) for their assembly. The global shortage of these has crippled automotive manufacturing around the world and limited production of many other consumer electronic devices. Would the diagnostic equipment required for this program be impacted by these shortages?

What would the Governement of Ontario do if there was insufficient interest from the private sector in investing in this business based on how poor the programs of the past were for repair facilities that bought test equipment and dynos that were never able to give a return on investment for their purchasers?

I believe much more consultation with the automotive repair industry, auto dealers and automotive manufacturers needs to take place before anything like this is contemplated.

I'm also concerned that this process seems to have taken place in secret with little to no effort made to solicit the opinions of many current MVIS facilities. I only heard about this proposal second hand. I represent a dealer group of 16 OEM franchised dealerships in Ontario and only one of our service managers had heard about these proposed changes. This really concerns me.
