I am strongly opposed to the cancellation of Ontario's Cap and Trade system, which is a highly efficient way to reduce carbon emissions at the lowest cost, and to gain revenue to facilitate this transition so that it is economically beneficial for all in Ontario. The loss of this revenue and the many programs that it supports will set our province back when competing with businesses based in other jurisdictions. Moreover, we are already feeling severe impacts of climate change and this will only become worse. This program allows us to contribute to arresting climate disaster and positions us to benefit from new more efficient technologies that are fostered in a regulated environment. We are already being eclipsed by China and Europe in the low emissions production of energy and should stake a strong claim in this area, rather than relying on outdated energy producing technologies that reduce the payoff for innovation and energy efficient design and production. Altogether a very self-destructive measure!
