As a physician, and as a rural hobby farmer, I see the effects of climate change on a regular basis. As a taxpayer, I see the enormous cost (both current/ongoing and potential) for failing to prevent the worst climate change outcomes.
The Cap-and-Trade program was just barely working, but in time it would work better, especially as the cost per ton CO2 goes up.
A carbon pricing plan is the only way to allow the free market to lower GHG emissions (endorsed by many free-market think tanks, like Canada's Ecofiscal Commission, and the Manning Centre for Building Democracy), and is well proven to be effective in most jurisdictions. Cancelling it due to ignorantly campaigning on the cancellation is foolish. As a physician, I have to regularly alter treatment plans due to new knowledge. Once the Ford gov't took over, their being unable to learn when new knowledge is presented (eg the report from the Environmental Commissioner) is dangerous.
Additionally, if the Gov't wants to argue that they have to do this because this is what they were elected to do, then they also need to continue the universal income supplement project that Ford promised to _not_ cancel.
So, either you are choosing to remain ignorant (ignoring new data), or are dishonest (justifying bad decisions with "it's an election promise," but then flip-flopping on another election promise).
This is not good government.
