I am a farmer in Halton. We already pay dear in natural heritage restrictions and Halton Conservation without any notice to farmers and rural landowners came out with draft wetland mapping and adjacent buffers around the wetlands. They increased control and restrictions to development in over 20% more land in Halton. The key is that the wetlands were not ground truthed and came from aerial photography. They added over 400% increase on my clear farmland so that I can not build a agricultural building or anything for that matter. Halton conservation bogus draft would then go to the region and become part of the official plan. Our farm does not have a wetland next to the field and I have to pay a wetland evaluator 3000$ to make a report to get it removed. Halton conservation in our opinion because of the huge increase in restrictions for all Halton rural lands is doing this as a political statement against this government to restrict development in Halton.
The solution is to not allow this to move forward and restrict Halton conservation to stick to its mandate and not as a regulation body. They are destroying 430 farm businesses in Halton and not adding any more protection to these small wetlands. We were also told by CH that the buffers will further increase in the future. They are forgetting that we are the reason why all the trees and wetlands are here because farmers preserved this. They need to be controlled and pleased that the Ford government wants to make these changes
