As a private property owner in a rural subdivision, I would like to see more power given back to the landowner (homeowner) for obtaining permits from conservation authorities. There are too many disagreements with the non-evaluated wetland mapping and the word "wetland" being used for not-supporting homeowners builds (additions, shops), landscaping (grading), housing changes on their own property, especially when a wetland doesn't exist. Takes way to long for minor permits to be issued or not issued/dragged throughout the court system. These non-evaluated wetlands are more of the issue than the actual wetlands with really no way a homeowner can change, obtain permits or a cost-effective way to have a proper wetland evaluation completed (whole wetland evaluated not what's mapped on property).
As well it's also not a fair system that a small number of landowners/homeowners are controlled by a conservation authority that have to go through the hard, expensive permitting requirements for minor permits and we need a fair permitting system for all of us even us little guys on the couple acres of land.
Just need more clarity on the whole wetland word and more landowner rights, we know our land better than anyone. Thank you
