My largest concerns can be summarized in the following list:
1. The Greenbelt is an excellent piece of legislation preventing
urban sprawl and preserving biodiverse nature areas surrounding very
large and developed urban centers. A critical part of its purpose is
that it stays exactly where it is and is left undeveloped.

2. Multiple times the Ontario government and Doug Ford himself have said they would not make changes to the greenbelt.

3. Modifying the legislation sets a dangerous precedent that the greenbelt, which
was designed to be permanent, can be modified whenever desired.
Essentially nullifying the idea of it.

I think my main worry is that if the important
greenbelt is destroyed (see item 3.) by this proposed change it will die
in vain and the areas lost will become car commuter suburbs of Toronto
or other cities in the golden horseshoe. If the change goes through the
best case scenario in my opinion is that the added land becomes a town or city in
its own right that is not car dependent and also not dependent on the
GTA for jobs. But then again, why not build the 50,000 homes to form a
new city further away from the GTA? If these new 50,000 homes are for
people who work in Toronto then densifying the areas filled with single
detached houses within the GTA should be the priority.
