Will the removal of the land solve the housing issue? Approx. 50K houses will be built on these land, how would the government ensure the affordability of these homes. The average home price of the proposed areas such as Richmond Hill, Vaughn and Markham could be over 1. 2 million.
Also, how will the predesignated area compensate the loss to Greenbelt in terms of bio-diversity and overall coverage of greenbelt?
Why some of the existing lands (Non Greenbelt) are not considered?
Has the province considered other alternatives, such as encourage companies to have employees to work remotely or have multiple office locations, expend public transit to a greater area? Would these options better help to reduce the housing issues then removing Greenbelt land?
We have plenty of areas to build multi-story condos in Greater Toronto Area, however they are less attractive because of the lack of public transit and accessibility of offices (lots of offices are concentrated in Toronto).
Cutting off Greenbelt land seems to be just a solution that we try to shortcut the issue.
