In no uncertain terms:
DO NOT PAVE THE GREENBELT.
The Ford government previously promised not to touch the Greenbelt, and was clearly given a mandate partially based on that promise.
Ontario does not want this. The number of people who do want this are dwarfed both in terms of numbers and in unvested interests. A handful of developers should not be able to circumvent the will of the people simply because of their financial and personal ties to Doug Ford.
There is no credible scientific data to support the idea that a highway running through protected wildlands is of any benefit to anyone other than those who get paid to make highways. I am given to understand a number of municipal governments are suing or have sued to prevent these measures, so the question remains: who does the Ford government serve by doing this?
Apologies for any typos or grammatical mistakes. The Greenbelt is a provincial treasure that belongs to ALL Ontarians.
