To: The Honourable R. Phillips, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks,
Dear Mr. Phillips,
I am gravely concerned with respect to Bill 4 - the Cap and Trade Cancellation Act. Climate Change will be exacerbated by this action and will reduce the availability to sequester carbon and reduce the rate of Climate Change. In order to reduce the effects of Climate Change we need all levels of Government to work together both nationally and internationally to seriously confront the crisis of Climate Change. The Cap and Trade Programme would have been an significant step forward to confront Climate Change.
Thousands of Scientists; the Pope and other religious leaders and the majority of Scientists Worldwide cannot be wrong about this. It is not possible to turn the clock back or to hide our heads in the sand and expect Climate Change to go away. The book 'Drawdown' (2016 - Penguin, ed. Paul Hawken) describes a systematic manner in which Climate Change can be averted over the next 50 years.
Your actions as the Provincial Government will not help enable this to happen. Moreover the opportunity to help build a New Green Economy that will create more employment and healthier outcomes for all of our citizens, if Bill 4 passes, will be missed.
