The Greenbelt should not be touched and should not be used as new land for new housing.

Reports have shown that the lack of housing is not necessarily from a lack of space. Ontarios cities and urban sprawl are immense. If space is used more efficiently within pre existing urbanized areas, the availability of housing could increase to meet demand. In the process this could create more walkable and connected communities that don’t require long commutes to get to a place of employment or other stores to purchase household goods.

Additionally, my main reason for wanting the Greenbelt to remain in tact is in a year where climate change has had drastic impacts in multiple countries we should be preserving our natural areas and ecosystems. We should not be paving over our natural ecosystems to build suburbs that will require more roads and more commutes. The one thing we should be focusing on after the effects of climate change this year is preserving our natural spaces to ensure we don’t exacerbate the effects of climate change. Natural spaces can be one of our best tools to fight against climate change.

Not only does the Greenbelt help with climate change but it provides a lot of enjoyment to us people (as well as providing for other species) in recreational activities and a simple enjoyment of nature.

As a young person whose future will be drastically impacted by climate change to high extremes this is very important to me and I do not want the Greenbelt to be degraded for more houses.
