I support expansion, I am a new home buyer in Hamilton (Nov 2022') and am leaving Toronto because the cities housing is entirely unaffordable. I am disgusted by any city that thinks it should restrict growth, Canada and Ontario is in a crisis for a minority of the population and the majority of owners continue to show their lack of concern. We need drastic housing capacity expansion in all areas, and it will and should hurt those who currently own. Property owners have no right to dictate policies around density or property taxes. Raise property taxes, subsidize new growth, do so aggressively. If residents can not afford taxes, provide programs where they may instead receive a lein against their property to accommodate their tax payments, which can be resolved on their death.
