I oppose repurposing the greenbelt for construction of homes. I specifically oppose it because it causes destruction of wetlands, floodplain infringement, drinking water quantity/quality degradation.

Rather than further suburban sprawl with single-family detached homes at the periphery of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), I implore the government to encourage intensification by supporting efforts to increase density of housing in existing areas and communities. Encouraging development of multi-unit dwellings, townhouses, semi-detached infill (two or three homes), and mid-size apartment/condo buildings, as well as apartment towers.

This is obviously more cost-effective to create housing for a higher number of people, more sustainable to not use up sensitive and protected lands for wildlife and farming, less impact on major road congestion used for commuting into urban areas, and increases the customer base and thus business in existing communities, rather than creating more suburban areas devoid of commercial activity.

I would also like to encourage efforts to increase housing supply through intensification in other cities outside of the GTHA, such as: Ottawa, London, Kingston, Barrie, etc. This would encourage population and economic growth of those communities, rather than focusing on a "mega-city", Toronto-centric approach.
