Hi there,

Unfortunately I do not think this proposal is a good idea: the land in the Greenbelt should not be used for housing for a number of reasons:
1) There is plenty of housing currently available, it's just not affordable for most people as house prices are far too high. There are a massive number of condos and townhomes being built, and they are not within most people's budgets.
2) The Greenbelt consists of many farms and arable land for food production. While Canada is a large country, most of its land is not usable to grow food. To take these farms that could provide people with local products and help shield the people from food insecurity is a bad idea for the long-term. Local food/produce is cheaper for most people and better for the environment due to less transit involved. That money gets re-invested back into the community. Additionally, there are much fewer supply chain issues that can arise.
3) We are not the only species living in the Greenbelt. Once you build a home on the land, that land has been polluted and will not be able to return to its previous state for hundreds, if not thousands of years. A vast number of species, flora and fauna, live in this area. They provide the environment we live in. If we build over these areas, we have destroyed their homes as well as destroyed a beautiful place for us to thrive in.
This proposal is short-sighted, and only thinking of those who stand to profit from the sale of homes. By re-purposing the Greenbelt, you are permanently destroying a fragile and precious environment that provide great benefit for both humans and other species.
