Conservation Authority Act and Regulations in Ontario is a major reason why Ontario has not suffered the floodplain disasters we have seen in Alberta/Calgary, BC and the Gatineau region of Quebec as well as many US jurisdictions where developers don't have the necessary oversight. Narrowing CA comment scope and allowing developers a free pass is absolutely the wrong way to proceed and will cost the taxpayer -- long after the developers have moved on leaving poorly planned housing behind.
This vindictive attempt to limit and muzzle the CA's is unjustified, shortsighted and contrary to the public interest. Is this really the heritage you wish to leave ?
Conservation Authorities provide important and valuable services that protect natural heritage and the quality of life in Ontario. They should be supported in their work -- not the sketchy developers who want to cut corners and undercut the price of quality developers.
The Expert Panel recommendations offered more effective ways to achieve more housing such as increased density where urban services exist, addressing the "missing middle" in house plans and the excess of single-family lots that will be unaffordable for many.
This misguided proposal should be abandoned.
