In 2018 Doug Ford said he “Heard the people” and would not mess with the greenbelt. In 2022 his government is proposing taking from it. And adding lands elsewhere. Taking this land from the greenbelt to build presumably yet more suburban McMansions instead of affordable housing for Ontario's is a horrible idea. This doesn’t help affordability in this province. This helps developers get rich off of foreign investors.

The greenbelt was designated as such because of the habitats of many at risk species, farmlands, wetlands & other ecosystems.

Where does this end? It starts with 15 acres but where do we draw the line? Protected space is protected space. Permanent is permanent not; permanent until we want the land for our developer donors.

We should be looking at growing our cities up, not out. Building more apartments/condos that are more than two bedrooms making it so families can be in an apartment. We should be looking at ways to reduce car dependence. Urban sprawl is not how we fix that. Ontario is a beautiful province. Let’s keep it that way.
