This proposed plan claims to support an influx of new Canadians sure to be arriving to Ontario in the next several years and yet it only supports the building of more rural single family homes, almost all of which will be unaffordable for those new to Canada.
Even if these homes were going to be affordable they will be so far outside of the city center that they will be isolating for newcomers and difficult for them to access transit and job opportunities.
This goes against the promises made by Premier Ford to leave the greenbelt, a jewel of the Ontario landscape, alone.
This will make homes in these areas more expensive, pushing lower income residents out.
For all these new Canadians they will need to be fed affordable, nutritious food and this will not be achievable if the farmlands that would be removed under this proposal are gone.
Ultimately, this proposal is undemocratic and takes away power from the very important conservation authority and the power of the current Conservative majority is being misused to push through a Bill that will have irreversible damage to the landscape, environment and well being for all of Ontario.
