Instead of building more unaffordable houses single family homes that only corporations and individuals who are profiting off the housing market can buy and then rent for outrageous prices, we desperately need to focus on making houses affordable to working individuals, as soon as possible. Every working Ontarian deserves a place to call home. Especially given how much we pay in taxes.

Ban (or at the very least least significantly tax) AirBnb’s and other short term rental services. Short term rental services have removed a significant supply of houses and units from the rental market and force renters into predatory living conditions without the protection of the RTA.

Tax rental income in a meaningful way, removing loopholes. Just like the income tax we pay, the more rental income, the more a individual or corporation should pay in taxes.

Place significant taxes on vacant residential properties, and implement a viable system to ensure vacant properties are identified and taxed in an efficient way.

It is time those who are profiting off the backs of working people of Ontario are made to pay their fair share.

Why wait years to build houses none of us can afford when policies can be implemented RIGHT NOW to start dealing with this crisis. There are homes, they are just being hoarded.
