This is indeed a great and positive initiative to address the Housing crisis. I am by education, an Architect graduated in back home (Bangladesh) and worked as a Professional Architect for more than 15 years. During that professional career, I volunteered different professional committees involved in strategic planning and development. In Canada, I am not practicing Architect but working as a Building Professional (I have completed Masters in Building Science) and a Real Estate Broker. So I directly see the insoght of the suject issue.
To address the shortage of housing issues, Provincial and Federal government may condider different housing skchemes including Private-Public development partnership, more Multi-family development rezoning, rent to own housing units for middle to low income groups, etc. I have a number of ideas which I am willing to share. I will be happy to volunteer if the Provincial Government need so.
