Opening the Greenbelt for housing development fails to remedy the housing affordability crisis and puts Ontarians at risk of ecological disaster in the near future.

The housing affordability crisis is better addressed by legislative methods that encourage densifying existing housing developments, building mid and high-density housing suitable for family occupancy, rent stabilization, and access to capital necessary for young Ontarians to purchase homes they can raise families in.

The construction of ultra low density housing and accompanying infrastructure will result in an increased volume of homes in increasingly remote suburbs that necessitate exorbitant commutes into urban centres.

The development of the Greenbelt will destabilize the environment and leave existing developments open to an increased risk of floods. Further, as global food shortages loom as a result of worsening climate catastrophe, destroying arable land could make the province dangerously dependent on food imports in the near future.

Thusly, the proposed amendments to the Greenbelt plan ought to be rejected.
