I am extremely against the plans to remove lands from the greenbelt for development. This plan is short-sighted and will result in more urban sprawl. Bill 23 won't benefit anyone but developers, as there's no actual incentives for building affordable housing.
The greenbelt is essential for the environmental health of the GTA, and for its residents' mental and physical well-being. It is essential for water quality, air quality, and as wildlife habitat. Covering it with suburban sprawl is not a solution for building homes. Investing in sustainable development, effective transit, and responsible densification are much better options.
The greenbelt is meant to be preserved for future generations, not sold to developers as a false solution to the housing crisis.
