The decision to take land out of the greenbelt is supported by myself and all the people who agree that housing and existing community needs are paramount. It is about time that the greenbelt be open for development. We need housing, especially near urban areas. We have a lot of land in Ontario/Canada and we can not stop growth. I believe the greenbelt, especially around urban areas, is a major contributor to unrealistic housing prices that exist today. These unrealistic prices have forced many people, including my children, in a position where they rent a home instead of achieving their dream of owning their own home.

The government should take additional areas out of the greenbelt. For example, Milton and Oakville have areas that need housing where greenbelt land is suitable; yet nothing was taken out of the greenbelt in the latest plans. Especially in north Oakville where greenbelt land is adjacent to urban zoning, with all required services readily available and where people can live today. Lands on the north side of Burnhamthorpe Road just east of Highway 25 seem to be a small isolated area (approximately 300 acres from Highway 25 to the 16 mile creek to the east) which seem to be an island on their own with services available and zoning directly facing said greenbelt land on the south side of Burnhamthorpe Road; in fact the new Oakville hospital is just south of this land and highways surround it.

The government should review these lands for immediate housing needs in Oakville and Halton region.
