Hello,
I am greatly concerned about removing certain lands from the greenbelt. There is only so little forest left in southern Ontario, it is unnecessary to carve out more of it.
Food security should be an issue of national security. If we pave agricultural land, the people of Ontario will be relying more on imported foods to feed us, which is not always guaranteed.
There is only a finite capacity of buildings that the construction industry can do and enough paved land that can be turned into housing to meet capacity. We don't need to pave on the last slivers of forest. As demand surpasses capacity, costs of building will go up (which they already have) resulting in unaffordable housing even if the supply increases (developers need their $100k/door cut). There are plenty of parking lots in this province. Is it not better use of resources to build there?
The commute times in the GTA are the longest in North America. Urban sprawl will only add to the problem.
