While I sincerely recognize the housing crisis that is currently in our midst, this “solution” you are proposing is simply driving our environmental crisis even further into despair. Rather than taking PROMISED precious green belt land, more needs to be done with current and existing properties that are abandoned or near-to-it. Thousands of properties go vacated following COVID with the shift to remote work. Many of these building have not and will not resume in-person capacity. You can drive down any road in Toronto these days and pass at least 1 abandoned building. Utilize these! Turn these office buildings into condos, apartments, houses etc. Build UP not out. We only have what little precious earth there is…we can’t go making more of it, so stop trying to pave it all over. Again, I recognize the need for housing - but you are avoiding obvious and reasonable solutions that are already available in our residential areas. Displacing millions of animals isn’t a solution, it’s a tragedy; one that you promised not to do.
