I am in favor of the lease extension proposal for Rondeau cottages (ERO 019-6142). A lease extension is necessary to extend occupancy beyond December 31, 2022. There have been a number of EROs regarding Rondeau cottages in recent years. The last three year lease extension was to provide time to find a long term solution for cottage occupancy. Why was this not done? I have heard that Ontario Parks intentionally stalled and obstructed the implementation of the agreed upon arrangement with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. Why was the wording changed from finding a long term solution in the current ERO? This is very, very troubling and it seems that Ontario Parks staff, especially Jason Travers who appears to be in charge, have a lot to answer for.

The Rondeau Park Plan is out of date and only adhered to when convenient. Why is it necessary to have a huge consultation process for such a trivial administrative revision that doesn't change anything? Is there not already legislative authority to extend Rondeau leases to December 31, 2038 in O Reg 347/07, s. 13 (2)?

In light of that, why was there such an extensive and expensive mailed solicitation for comments? That was not done last time, and it is a waste of taxpayer's money.

The purchase arrangement which was agreed upon and the subject of many, many meetings between Chatham-Kent and Ontario Parks needs to be implemented. The Rondeau cottagers deserve resolution, security of tenure and freedom from unreasonable rent increases. What the cottagers do not need is a fifth column of bureaucrats that arrange ERO consultations (behind the Minister's back?) that close five weeks (five weeks!) before the cottage leases expire. This is not only inconsiderate and heartless, it is unacceptable. There needs to be accountability. Accountability for broken promises. Accountability for cavalier treatment. Accountability for acting in bad faith.

I shall personally ensure that this submission is seen by Minister Piccini.
