Do not diminish the important systems complex notion embedded in the current Ontario Wetland Evaluation system. This has been in place since the 1990s and instead of diminishing the systems notion of protected natural areas, we should be expanding it. If increased climate change impacts (flooding) and loss of biodiversity has taught us anything is that we need to be diligent in protecting our existing natural assets (especially important in built-up impervious areas such as the GTA).
I would urge you to read my PhD dissertation that highlights the value of planning with a green infrastructure lens to build rural community resiliency in the face of the environmental challenges facing us (also equally or even more important in urban communities).
