I am recommending that the Rondeau Provincial Park Management Plan be amended to allow the extension of existing leases for the cottage lots to be extended to December 31, 2024. I urge you also to work towards the permanent occupancy of the cottage lots, and a sale under Section 9(3) of the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act (2006) as directed by then-Minister Jeff Yurek.
As stated in the Ontario Parks letter inviting comments, Rondeau Provincial Park was established in 1894 and leased cottage lots from that time to 1950, and the extension of these lots would support the protection of cultural values and heritage appreciation opportunities, which are stated objectives of the Park mandate. The cottage lots represent 0.56% of the Rondeau Park area. Other stated mandates, to protect significant natural values, and exceptional recreational opportunities, can be achieved in the remaining 99.44% of the Park dedicated to forest, beach, marsh and water of the park.
